HARTFORD, CT—The Williams College men's soccer team
needed an extra period Sunday afternoon to defeat NESCAC opponent
Trinity College 1-0.
The Ephs scored three minutes into the first overtime period
when Gaston Kelly received a pass from Patrick Ebobisse and beat
the keeper to the far post. It was Kelly's 4th
goal of the year.
This marked the sixth overtime game for the Ephs (7-0-2, 4-0-2
NESCAC) this season, five of which have ended in a victory. The win
also preserves the Ephs undefeated season.
The game was highlighted by aggressive play from both sides. The
Ephs had their opportunities with 16 shots in the match. Trinity
(4-4-1, 2-2-1 NESCAC) keeper Grant Schonberg, however, proved up to
the task with 6 saves on the day for the Bantams.
"He had one of the best individual performances I have
seen all year." said Coach Russo about Schonberg.
Trinity had 6 shots in the game, 4 of which came in the first
half. Andrew Lyons-Berg had 2 saves on the day for the Ephs.
Overall Russo was happy with the result of the game, and
weekend. "It was a good weekend," he remarked,
"we picked up six points, and we are pleased with the
result."
The Ephs will return to play Wednesday, October 13th,
in a non-conference game against Springfield College.
