Williamstown, MA—The Williams College men's soccer
team lost 2-0 to Bowdoin College Saturday morning.
The Polar Bears (7-1-2, 4-1-2 NESCAC) scored the go ahead goal
in the 64th minute of the second half
when Ben Denton-Schneider connected with a throw in from Daniel
Chaffetz in the box to put Polar Bears up 1-0.
Bowdoin scored again just moments later in the
67th minute when Zach Danssaert
connected with a corner kick from Tim Prior on the far side of the
goal post and put the ball past keeper Peter
Morrell. Morrell had 5 saves for the Ephs (8-1-2, 4-1-2 NESCAC)
in 90 minutes of play.
Overall game was statistically even. The Ephs outshot the Polar
Bears 15 to 11, however, Bowdoin managed 7 shots on goal compared
to only 2 for the Ephs.
Will Wise, who played 90 minutes in goal for the Polar Bears,
had 2 saves on the day.
The loss effectively ends the Ephs undefeated season,
and jeopardizes their chances for the NESCAC regular
season title. The Ephs are now tied for second in the NESCAC with
Bowdoin College, however the Polar Bears own the tie breaker.
Middlebury College, who face the Ephs on October
29th, lead the NESCAC with only one loss in six
conference games.
The Ephs will return to play Monday against non-conference
opponent RPI.
