Hoboken, NJ---The Williams College Volleyball
team woke up this morning to a breakfast of champions, as displayed
in their fierce showing against Clarkson and Baruch. The Ephs
started their game-winning day with a 3-1 win over Clarkson (18-25,
25-16, 25-17, 25-20). Senior Kate Anderson had
an explosive lead with her 23 kills and 11 digs. Senior Nicole
Ballon-Landa had 12 dynamic kills, while senior Emily Avis showed
her diverse skills with 54 assists and 9 digs.
Junior Aly
McKinnon played strong defense with 18 digs along with freshman
Emily
Baratta who had 15 digs. Emily Avis was more than pleased with
the Ephs this morning, saying, "We're developing consistency, and
we basically played at our pace today. Our defense and blocking
turned on and we just played our game instead of letting other
teams dictate our pace".
This mentality definitely carried over to the Ephs' afternoon
match against Baruch, which they won 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-15).
Kate Anderson had 12 kills and 7 digs, and was closely followed by
Nicole Ballon-Landa's 7 kills.
Senior Eleanor Levine
was unstoppable at the net both offensively and defensively with
her 6 kills and 6 blocks. Emily Avis had 28 assists in response to
Aly McKinnon who put up 11 digs -- both firm efforts for the
Williams victory. Coach Christi Kelsey was very proud of the Ephs
and said, "Overall, we had a solid out of region weekend. We really
rebounded today with wins against two solid teams. We were more
focused and executed more consistently overall"
The Ephs are looking forward to their next match against New
Paltz State next Tuesday evening at 7 PM, which will hopefully go
on to solidify this new spark. Coach Kelsey is especially excited
after this weekend, which she felt was "a nice way to get back on
track for the middle part of the season".
