LEWISTON, ME—The Williams College men's soccer defeated
Bates College 3-0 Saturday morning.
The victory maintained the Ephs (6-0-2, 3-0-2 NESCAC) undefeated
season and keeps them in contention for the NESCAC regular season
title.
The Ephs took a 1-0 lead into half time following a goal by Colin
Ainsworth in the 14th minute. Ainsworth received a
pass from Charlie Romero in the box after a scramble in front of
the net and put the ball past keeper Greg Watts. Watts had a strong
game for the Bobcats (3-5-1, 1-3-1 NESCAC), recording 12 saves in
90 minutes of play.
The Ephs struck again early in the 2nd minute of the
second half when Kiel
Bonhomme scored unassisted. It was Bonhomme's third goal of the
season.
Charlie Romero had a fine game for the Ephs. In addition to his
first half assist, Romero scored a second half goal in the
86th minute off a one man break away to ice the game.
Romero now has five goals on the season, second most among NESCAC
players.
Overall the Ephs outshot Bates 28 to 9. Keeper Peter
Morrell recorded 3 saves in 90 minute of play for the Ephs.
Coach Russo was happy with the result of the game. "Overall we
played reasonably well," he remarked. "It is a tough venue to play
in, and we did a good job of creating chances."
Williams will return to the field tomorrow against Trinity
College.
