Springfield, Mass – Williams was able to continue their winning ways with a 73- 42 win over Springfield College tonight. Williams improves their record to 3-0 while Springfield falls to 0-4.
Williams took control of the game early hopping out to a 17-0 lead. They were able to hold Springfield scoreless for the first nine minutes of the game until sophomore guard Colleen Dignum (Albany, N.Y) came into the game and hit a three with 11:15 remaining in the first half. Williams maintained their lead entering halftime with a 34-16 game.
At the end of the first half Williams was only shooting 36.4% (12-33) from the field, but were able to hold Springfield to 17.2% (5-29) shooting.
Yet Williams was able to put it all together in the second half. In the second half Williams shot 50% improving their shooting percentage to 43.3% (29-47) for the game. Springfield also improved shooting 22.6% (14-62) for the game. Coach Manning said, "I was really pleased with our second half execution. We were able to push the ball and get some fastbreak points." If Williams is able to stick to its strengths of lockdown defense, pushing the ball in the open court, and scoring fastbreak points they could be a force to be reckoned in Division III.
Williams had three players in double figures. Chessie Jackson (Goleta, CA) had 16 points and 8 rebounds, Taylor Shea (Allendale, N.J) had 17 points and 7 rebounds, and Jill Greenberg (Westwood, MA) added 15 points, 6 assists and 4 steals of her own. Manning "Tonight was a real team effort, everyone was able to get into the game and contribute."
Williams next game will be home versus MCLA at 4:00 in Chandler Gymnasium.
