Kate Anderson and Nicole Ballon-Landa named to ESPN District I All-Academic Teams

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – For the second straight year Williams volleyball standouts Kate Anderson (Berlin, MA) and Nicole Ballon-Landa (La Jolla, CA) have been named to the ESPN District I All-Academic Teams. A year ago the junior duo was named to the District I First Team. This year Anderson was accorded First Team honors, while Ballon-Landa was a Second Team honoree.

Both Anderson, an opposite, and Ballon-Landa, a middle blocker are double majors and captains of this year's 16-12 Eph team that is seeded sixth in the NESCAC Tournament that begins tonight in Amherst. Williams is in search of their fourth consecutive NESCAC title and will take on third-seeded Bowdoin at 8:00 p.m. The Williams seniors are 95-42, .693, heading into tonight's match.

To earn recognition as an All-Academic District Team member the student-athlete must possess at least a 3.35 cumulative GPA, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be voted on by the District's sports information directors. Anderson majors in biology and sociology, while Ballon-Landa majors in mathematics and psychology.

By virtue of earning First Team honors, Kate Anderson will now appear on the ESPN Academic All-America ballot.

"I'm very proud of Kate and Nicole repeating as members of the ESPN District I All-Academic team, " said Eph head coach Christi Kelsey. "These two work extremely hard both on and off the court and they are great examples of what it truly means to be a Division III athlete by balancing and excelling academically and athletically. Our entire program values both components of being a student and an athlete and it is a tremendous honor for Kate and Nicole to represent Williams volleyball for this award."
