Ephs Get Second Straight Win against Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA -- The Williams women's soccer team got its second straight win of the season today against Springfield.  The Ephs (2-0-1) played away for the third game in a row and beat Springfield (2-3) 2-1.

From the first whistle, the Ephs appeared ready to play.  Freshman forward Carla Nicasio scored an unassisted goal at the 3:21 mark. The goal is Nicasio's first of the season. Although the Ephs recorded nine shots in the first half alone, Nicasio's goal was the only of the half.  Sophomore Laura Wann got her first start of the season in goal and turned away two shots in the first half.

After many opportunities throughout the game, Williams finally got its second goal with just over 15minutes to play.  At 74 :47,  Bridget Gallagher put the ball in the back of the net.  The goal was unassisted.  With thirteen seconds to play, Springfield senior Suzanne Silva answered, but it was too little too late. Senior goalie Julia Schreiber played the second half; she allowed the goal but also recorded four saves on the day.

Coach Pinard said after the game, "It was a great competitive game. [It was] up and down for both teams. We competed well. I thought we did a great job of learning from this weekend and continuing to get better each game."

The Ephs next game is September 18th at William Smith.
