New London, CT – The Williams College men's soccer team
was held to a 0-0 OT draw, their first non victory of the season,
against NESCAC opponent Connecticut College Saturday afternoon.
The Ephs (2-0-1) remain undefeated, but were clearly
disappointed by the result of the game.
"It was a frustrating game," remarked Coach Russo, "We had more
chances than they did, but simply could not finish. We're
disappointed, but we'll just have to bounce back."
This was the third consecutive overtime game for the Ephs, who
were fortunate enough to win the first two.
The game was highlighted by plenty of opportunities for the Ephs
who outshot Connecticut College (2-0-1) 19 to 6. However, the Ephs
were consistently stopped by outstanding keeper play by Connecticut
College goalie Casey Marini who had 9 saves in the game. The
Ephs also had advantages in corner kicks 10 to 2.
"I thought we took over in the second half, and played well in
overtime," said Coach Russo, "But their keeper played very well. He
is a very good player."
The Ephs will look to move on against Babson tomorrow in their
home opener.
