Williams Drops Hard Fought Battle to Conn College

New London, CT--

Volleyball opened up their conference schedule this evening against the host Camels of Connecticut College. Despite taking a hard fought first set 25-23, the Ephs were unable to capitalize in the subsequent sets eventually falling by the score of 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-14 and 25-22.

The potent Williams offense struggled at times against the blocking and defense of Conn, although first year Claire Miller still managed to slam home a team leading 11 kills. Sophomore Emily Baratta added in another 8 kills for the Ephs, while junior co-captain Haley Eagon had an additional 7. After hitting .342 in the first set, the Ephs' hitting percentage decreased in each subsequent set.

Defensively Williams played scrappily while trying to limit the damage done by the potent Conn hitting duo of Amy Newman and Rachel Schroff. First year Raea Rasmussen successfully stifled Newman in the first set with some tough blocking, leading the way with a team high 4 blocks. Classmate Callie Kiernan and Eagon chipped in with a further two blocks apiece.

Senior Libero Aly McKinnon had 24 digs for the Ephs, a season high, while Miller had 10 digs and junior Lauren Agoubi had 9. McKinnon and Agoubi had 2 aces apiece.

The Ephs will look to rebound tomorrow morning as they take on rival Tufts.
