Ephs Record First Conference Win against Cardinals

Clinton, NY -- Travelling to Hamilton College for their second NESCAC Weekend of the year, volleyball looked to get on the board and notch their first conference win of the year. Playing a late night game against Little Three rival Wesleyan, the Ephs walked away with a 3-1 victory (25-23, 25-13, 24-26, 25-13) over the Cardinals.

The Ephs took the close first set by a narrow two point margin, as they were forced to come from behind due to numerous uncharacteristic team errors. In the second set it would be a different story entirely, as the Williams offense came alive and as a team slammed home 21 kills against only 1 error, for an extraordinary hitting percentage of .714 (28 attempts). First year outside hitter Claire Miller led the way for the Ephs with a team high 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .290 (4 errors, 31 attempts). Junior Haley Eagon and first year Raea Rasmussen tied for second on the team with 10 kills apiece. Eagon hit .474 in the match (1 error, 19 attempts), while Rasmussen hit .346 (1 error, 26 attempts). Sophomores Emily Baratta and Emily Doll had 9 and 5 kills respectively, while first year Emily O'Day chipped in with 4 more in limited action.

Wesleyan, however, refused to go down without a fight, and ended up taking a hard fought set 3 by the score of 26-24. The Ephs, however, would close out the fourth set 25-13 after running out to an unopposed 7-0 lead.

Defensively the Ephs were led by rookie setter Amanda Schott, who had 17 digs to go along with 42 assists. Senior libero ALy McKinnon and Miller tied for second on the team with 14 digs apiece. Eagon led the team with 5 blocks, while Rasmussen, O'Day, and Baratta each had an additional two.

Williams will hope to continue their winning ways as they next take on Trinity College and the hosts, Hamilton College, tomorrow morning.
