Ephs Down Hamilton 9-0 in Season Opener

CLINTON, NY - The Ephs started their season off with a resounding 9-0 victory over Hamilton in the first match of the season. Williams proved resilient to first match jitters, and made a strong impression with their play.

Friday evening's match started off with freshman Lily Grant (#8), sophomore Caroline Sawin (#6), sophomore Ellie O'Neill (#4), and senior co-captain Laura Henry (#2) all coming away with strong victories for the Ephs. Grant came away with an impressive 3-0 victory in her first collegiate squash match. Sawin and Henry also played decisive matches, both notching 3-0 victories. Even though O'Neill lost her first game, she came back to win the match and record a 3-1 victory for the Ephs.

Next up were seniors Mia Fry (#9) and Hannah Kaemmer (#7), freshman Nicole Feshbach (#5), junior Alyssa Northrop (#3), and senior co-captain Alli Rubin (#1). Rubin, Fry, Kaemmer and Feshbach all recorded 3-0 victories for the Ephs while Northrop rallied from losing her first game to winning in an impressive and hard-fought four games.

Henry thinks this was a good start for Williams. "It was clear that everyone trained hard and it paid off," says the Eph's captain. "Today was a great way to start the season."

In addition, Williams recorded a 2-1 record in the extra matches between the #10, #11, and #12 players. Seniors Hollis Miller (#11) and Katherine Belk (#12) won their matches 3-0 and 3-1, respectively. Freshman Hailey Herring-Newbound (#10) was defeated 3-1 in four close games.

The women return to the court on Saturday, November 17th when they travel to Ithaca, NY to take on Cornell and Stanford.
