ITHACA, NY - The Ephs ended their weekend road trip with a final record of 1-2, having lost both of their matches on Saturday versus Cornell and Stanford. Williams came in as the underdog in both contests, and while put up a strong fight, lost 9-0 and 8-1 respectively.
Sophomore Caroline Sawin, playing #6 for the Ephs, came away with only victory for the day - an impressive 3-0 win against her opponent from Stanford. Sawin was a bright spot for the team and played well throughout the day. She had a tough match against Cornell that ended in her defeat in four games.
Williams had multiple other close and hard-fought matches against both Cornell and Stanford. Freshman Nicole Feshbach, playing at #5, had a thrilling five gamer against Cornell, but ultimately lost 15-13 in the final game. Feshbach also managed to get a game off of her Stanford opponent.
Senior co- captain Alli Rubin played strongly at the #1 position, taking a game off of her Cornell opponent. "Playing Cornell and Stanford was a great way to begin our season," said Rubin. "They are both strong teams but we had solid performances and are looking forward to building off of these matches."
Also playing for Williams on Saturday were: co-captain Laura Henry (#2), Alyssa Northrop (#3), Ellie O'Neill (#4), Hannah Kaemmer (#7), Lily Grant (#8) and Mia Fry (#9). All players fought hard in their respective matches and proved to be tough competitors.
The Ephs will have their first home match when Penn comes to the Simon Squash Center on Friday, November 30th for a 4:30 PM match. Drexel, Trinity and Princeton will also be coming to Williamstown over the course of the weekend.
