WILLIAMSTOWN – Williams ends Saturday with a 1-1 record, with a win coming against Drexel and a loss versus Trinity.
The Ephs started off the day strong, defeating Drexel 9-0. First up to play were Lily Grant (#9), Caroline Sawin (#6) and Ellie O'Neill (#3). After winning a close first game (12-10), Grant handily defeated her opponent in 3 games. Sophomore Sawin and O'Neill also won their respective matches 3-0.
Next up for Williams came Mia Fry (#8), Nicole Feshbach (#5) and Laura Henry (#2). Fry and Feshbach were both able to defeat their Drexel opponents in 3 games. After winning the first two games of her match, senior co-captain Henry lost the third 12-10, but came back strong in the fourth with a 13-11 victory to win the match 3-1.
In the third round of matches, Hannah Kaemmer (#7), Alyssa Northrop (#4) and Alli Rubin (#1) all recorded 3-0 victories over their opponents. Freshman Hailey Newbound (#10) also won the exhibition match in 3 games.
"This morning was a great win off of a solid opponent," commented senior co-captain Rubin. "We had strong performances from all of our players and look to build on that momentum going forward."
The Ephs then prepared to face their second opponent of the day in Trinity College. Although the women fought and played hard, none managed to get a game in any of the matches. Trinity ended last season as the third ranked team in the nation.
Williams will face Princeton tomorrow at noon in their last match of the weekend.
