HARTFORD – The Ephs took on Middlebury today at noon in their final round of NESCACS. After their tough loss to Bates the night before, they were determined to beat Middlebury and earn a third place finish. However, after an all out battle, the Ephs fell just short with a 5-4 finish to Middlebury.
Alli Rubin, Alyssa Northrop, Caroline Sawin, and Carolyn Kaemmer made up the first round of matches. Alyssa pulled out another exciting five gamer, while Caroline managed to win in a tough four games. Alli and Carolyn both had tight five gamers, however, they fell just short in the fifth, putting the overall match score at 2-2.
Courtney Bogle, Laura Henry, Ellie O'Neill, Hannah Kaemmer, and Mia Fry made up the second round of matches. Showing great fitness and maturity, Ellie pulled out the Ephs' third win, while Hannah managed to defeat her opponent in a decisive three games, ultimately putting the Ephs up 4-2. Courtney and Mia battled hard, but tired from the long weekend, fell to their opponents in three, evening the score once again to 4-4. Finally, although playing strong squash, Laura's match ended the day in a nail biter, faling just short in a five game battle.
Although the Ephs fell short today, having just defeated the Panthers 5-4 a few weeks ago proves how close the two teams are. The Ephs were unsatisfied with their fourth place finish, and look forward to a rematch at nationals. The women take on St. Lawrence and Mount Holyoke this weekend.
