NEW HAVEN, CT – Women's squash kicks off the Yale Round Robin 2-0, with victories over St. Lawrence and George Washington. Friday's win versus St. Lawrence marks the Ephs second time they have swept their opponents across the board – going 27-0 in games for the day. Williams faced a tougher competition on Saturday morning, but still managed to defeat George Washington 8-1.
The Round Robin began on Friday evening for the Ephs, who entered this weekend with a four match win streak. The match posed little trouble for Williams, with all players disposing of their opponents fairly easily. A couple highlights of the day came from Ellie O'Neill (#3) and Nicole Feshbach (#5) who gave up a combined seven points throughout both of their matches.
The Ephs then turned their attention to Saturday morning's match versus George Washington. Numbers five through nine all came out victorious for the Ephs with 3-0 wins. O'Neill also won in three games, but was pushed to the limit in the third, with a 16-14 game score.
After her opponent tied their match 1-1, co-captain Alli Rubin (#2) came back to win the final two games, recording a 3-1 victory. Co-captain Laura Henry had a tough match at the number 1 position, and although she fought hard, was defeated in three games.
The highlight of the day came from Alyssa Northrop (#4). Finding herself down 2-0, Northrop stormed back to take the final three games, defeating her opponent 11-9 in the fifth.
The Ephs now ride a six match win streak, with one opponent left for the weekend. Williams will face Franklin & Marshall tomorrow morning at 9 am.
