NEW HAVEN, CT – Women's squash returns home undefeated for the weekend while riding a seven match win streak with Sunday morning's victory over Franklin & Marshall. While the Ephs were challenged, F&M proved no match for Williams, who pulled out an 8-1 win.
Lily Grant (#9) and Caroline Sawin (#6) were first off the court with wins for the Ephs, both defeating their F&M opponent in three games. On the other court, Ellie O'Neill (#3), after finding herself down 2-1, came through in the clutch to win the final two games of her match.
Next up for the Ephs came Mia Fry (#8), Nicole Feshbach (#5) and co-captain Alli Rubin (#2). Rubin only needed three games to dispose of her opponent, while Fry and Feshbach both needed four to pull out the win. Fry had multiple close games with her F&M adversary including a 15-13 victory in the second game.
Last up came Hannah Kaemmer (#7), Alyssa Northrop (#4) and co-captain Laura Henry (#1). Kaemmer was the first of the last round of matches to finish, defeating her opponent in three games. After losing the first game, Northrop came up with her second comeback of the weekend, storming back to take the next three games. Henry was faced with yet another tough match at the number one position. After losing the first two games, Henry fought off a match ball in the third game and won the fourth, to take the match to five games. After a long battle, Henry was eventually defeated 11-7 in the fifth.
Gibbs Cullen (#10) was undefeated throughout the weekend in the exhibition matches.
Rubin was happy with how the Ephs performed. "This was a great weekend for our team, commented Rubin. "We kept our momentum going and hope to continue it through next weekend's tough matches."
The Ephs return to the court again this coming weekend with four hard and important matches. On Friday they will face Brown, who finished one place above Williams in the final rankings last season. The weekend does not get any easier after that. Williams will go for their 13th consecutive Little Three Title on Saturday, with matches against Wesleyan and Amherst. Their final home match of the season will come against an improved Columbia team at noon on Sunday.
