In their first match of the day versus Hunter College the Ephs fell behind 15-0, suffering two falls and a decision. Williams cut the deficit to three points 15-12 with a pin by Tim Garripoli at 149 and one by Jorge Loepez at 157.
Hunter bounced back and took a six-point lead when Nicholas Wilkie out-pointed Kyle Gaffney 7-5 at 165, giving Hunter an 18-12 advantage.
Hunter was then victimized in two in the last four bouts for having a short lineup requiring the Hawks to concede forfeit wins to the Ephs at 174 and 197.
Freshman Chris Chorzepa gave Williams a lead they would not relinquish when he won 16-6 at 184 to put Williams up 22-18. He final score of the match was 28-21.
From there the Ephs battled hard throughout their final two matches versus Centenary and The College of New Jersey.
Williams fell to Centenary 16-15 in an exciting match that came down to the last bout where Eph freshman Ben Wertz was defeated in OT, 4-2. Wertz, however, was one of the bright lights in the Ephs' 37-9 loss to TCNJ when he captured an OT bout.
Sophomore 157-pounder Jorge Lopez was the only other Eph to score versus TCNJ when he pinned Mike Shaughnessy in 2:32.
Next weekend the Ephs will travel to SUNY Oneonta to take on Little Three rival Wesleyan, Western New England, and Oneonta
Even though the Ephs went 1-2 on the day Eph head coach Scott Honecker was pretty psyched with his team's effort. "I thought it was the best that we've wrestled this year," said Honecker. "This was as tough an event, probably one of the toughest, ever to come to Lasell Gym."
"I'm disappointed in the loss to Centenary, but I can honestly say that's the best I've seen us wrestle this season," Honecker added. "If we can take that as a base and improve from there by the time [NCAA] Regionals come around we'll make some noise."
"[Jorge] Lopez took care of business as usual and Tim Garripoli showed some serious toughness getting some stitched between rounds and coming back to finish the day," Honecker noted. "The freshman and sophomores are rapidly improving and we can't wait to get a shot at our traditional rival Wesleyan at SUNY Oneonta next weekend."
