NEW HAVEN, CT – The Ephs fell to Brown today in the ¾ playoff of the Kurtz cup, solidifying their ranking at 12th in the country. After previously falling to Brown 6-3 in the regular season, the Ephs fought hard but eventually could not pull off a win and fell 7-2.
The match followed the three court system, with Caroline Hogan (#9), Ellen Coombe (#6), and co-captain Nicole Feshbach (#3). Hogan and Coombe fought hard against very good opponents, with Coombe taking her opponent to a tie breaker, but eventually both fell 3-0. Feshbach, playing in her last match of her senior season, came back from a 2-1 deficit to win in a spectacular five game match, making the overall score 2-1 to Brown.
Next on court were Charlotte Walsh (#8), Esther Baek (#5), and Hayley Parsons (#2). Baek played excellent squash against a tough opponent, but eventually fell in three games. Walsh fought hard and took her opponent to five games, but fell 3-2. Parsons dominated throughout her match, defeating her opponent in three decisive games.
Last on court were co-captain Lily Grant (#7), Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra (#4), and Nicole Friedman (#1). Mahalingam-Dhingra fell to her opponent in three games, while Grant fought to come back from a 2-0 deficit. She managed to get a game off her opponent, and despite fighting for every point, lost 3-1. Friedman started out strong against a very tough opponent, getting a 2-0 lead, but eventually fell in five extremely close games, making the overall score 7-2 to Brown.
Head coach Zafi Levy had this to say about the finish, "Hard loss for the team today. We had hope to do better but Brown was too strong for us today. It has been a long season but a really rewarding one. We have grown as a team and had some great matches and fantastic wins. I am very proud of our seniors, Lily and Nicole, who did a great job leading the team this season."
Co-captain Nicole Feshbach echoed his statement, commenting, "Even though we ended out season with a loss, I couldn't be prouder of how everybody played. We still had a successful weekend, proving how much we have improved over the season with a great win versus GW on Friday. We've had an incredible season, accomplishing many of our preseason goals. I couldn't be happier with how each and every person played today and throughout the season. It's been an amazing run and an honor to be a member of the team with this group of women."
