LANCASTER, PA - The Ephs defeated Franklin and Marshall today 8-1. The win brings positive momentum into a very important weekend for the team, as they face George Washington tomorrow and University of Virginia on Sunday.
Playing the five court system, first up were Charlotte Walsh (#10), Ellen Coombe (#8), captain Alyssa Ritchie (#6), Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra (#4), and Hayley Parsons (#2). Parsons fought hard but fell to her opponent in four tight games, taking it to a tie breaking 13-11 in the fourth. The rest of the first round players dominated and defeated their opponents 3-0.
Next on court were Caroline Hogan (#9), Anna Nicholson (#7), Melissa Swann (#5), Esther Baek (#3), Nicole Friedman (#1). Hogan, Nicholson, Swann, and Friedman all dominated their matches and won 3-0. Baek had an intense match and came back from a 2-1 deficit to win in the fifth game, making the final score 8-1.
Captain Alyssa Ritchie had this to say about the win, "We had a very exciting win tonight against F&M, a strong competitor of ours. I'm very pleased with how everyone played tonight, and especially with Nicole and Esther. Each beat players they would have had more trouble against last season, demonstrating incredible growth. We are very excited to continue the momentum tomorrow against GW."
Assistant coach Blair Dils agreed with this sentiment: "It's not easy driving five hours and performing as well as the players did tonight against a team hungry to beat us. Our fitness level really showed tonight. But it's out of the frying pan and into the fire against GW tomorrow."
The Ephs face GW tomorrow in Washington, DC at 2pm and then UVA on Sunday to round off the weekend.
INDIVIDUAL SCORES TO COME.
