Women's Squash Defeats Middlebury 6-3

MIDDLEBURY, VT – The Ephs (13-2) defeated NESCAC rival Middlebury today 6-3. The win represents their ninth consecutive victory and brings positive momentum for their key match against Brown on Tuesday.

Playing the three-court system, Charlotte Walsh (#9), captain Alyssa Ritchie (#6), and Hayley Parsons (#3) were up first. Walsh was first off court, defeating her opponent in three quick games. Ritchie played a tough opponent and managed to get a game when down 2-0, but ended up falling in the fourth. Parsons played an extremely close match, coming back from a 2-1 deficit to win in five tight games, making the overall match score 2-1 int the Ephs' favor.

Next on court were Anna Nicholson (#8), Melissa Swann (#5), and Esther Baek (#2). Nicholson followed in Walsh's footsteps, defeating her opponent in a dominant three games. Swann also stayed strong throughout her match, winning 3-0. Baek also finished her match 3-0, remaining tough even in a tie-breaking second game, and gaining the winning fifth and deciding point for Williams.

Last up were Ellen Coombe (#7), Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra (#4), and Nicole Friedman (#1). Coombe and Mahalingam-Dhingra both faced difficult opponents and despite taking their matches to a tie-breaking fifth game, fell 3-2. Friedman won her first two games and then lost the next two, but still remained strong in the fifth and won, making the overall match score 6-3 to the Ephs.

Captain Alyssa Ritchie had this to say about the match: "Tonight's win over Middlebury was an important result and I'm pleased with the girls for pulling out the in against a tough team on their home courts. Hopefully the next time we face them we will have an even more decisive result."

Eph head coach Zafi Levy agreed with Ritchie, stating "I'm very happy with the win. It was a really hard match versus a fantastic Middlebury squad. We had to dig very deep to pull out the win. We look forward to playing Brown on Tuesday."

The Ephs will face Brown at 4pm on Tuesday for their last home match of the season.
