WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Ephs defeated the Mount Holyoke and Bowdoin teams 9-0 today in their first two home matches of the new year. The team dominated the day start to finish and looks forward to continuing the momentum into the rest of their weekend.
The Ephs first face Mount Holyoke at 12pm. Playing the five-court system, even-numbered matches were up first. Particularly memorable matches included Hayley Parsons (#2) coming back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat her opponent 3-1, as well as seniors Charlotte Walsh (#9), Ellen Coombe (#8), and captain Alyssa Ritchie (#5) all defeating their opponents handily in three games. Caroline Hogan (#10) and Eliza Bower (#11) also dominated their opponents in the two exhibition matches.
After a short break, the team faced Bowdoin at 4:30. Despite their fatigue, the team fought hard and played well, only letting their opponents win a few games in the overall 9-0 sweep. Freshmen Anna Nicholson (#7) and Melissa Swann (#6) showed resilience on court, letting their opponents get as few points as possible in their 3-0 wins. Back from her study abroad, Hayley Parsons (#2) also dominated after dropping a game, and was joined in the win by her classmates Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra (#4) and Nicole Friedman (#1), both of whom won 3-0. Sophomore Esther Baek (#3) also showed her improvement on court, facing a tough opponent but still pulling out a 3-1 win.
Coach Levy had this to say about the match: "Strong showing for our team today. We played well in both matches. We look forward to playing Colby tomorrow and keep improving our standards."
The Ephs next face Colby tomorrow at 4:30 and then, for one of the season's biggest matches, Bates on Sunday at 12pm.
