WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Ephs defeated Hamilton in a 9-0 sweep that marks their first NESCAC win of the season. After falling to Cornell on Friday and defeating Dickinson yesterday, the team continued their positive momentum with a decisive win to finish off their home opener weekend.
Playing the three-court system, the team rested two players (co-captain Hayley Parsons (#3) and Esther Baek (#5)) after a long weekend of play. Up first was freshmen Adrienne Conza (#9), who marked her debut in the top nine with a decisive 3-0 win, along with Melissa Swann (#6) and co-captain Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra (#9), both of whom also defeated their opponents in three decisive games. Next on court were senior Caroline Hogan (#8), Abby LeBlanc (#5), and Julia Ward (#2), all of whom won in three quick games, with Ward even defeating her opponent 11-0 in the last game. Anna Nicholson (#7), Sarah Willwerth (#4), and co-captain Nicole Friedman (#1) were last on court, all continuing the momentum of their teammates and winning to make the overall match score 9-0 to the Ephs.
Assistant coach Blair Dils had this to say about the win: "Even though we were supposed to win comfortably, it was nice to see everyone win 3-0. Sometimes there can be a mental letdown on day 3 of a long weekend of matches, but there wasn't much sign of weakness today. We're looking forward to a little break and then we'll get back to work to prep for our big Philly weekend in two weeks."
Co-captain Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra echoed his statement, saying, "Even with two of our top players resting today, all the girls stayed focused to win decisively, which isn't always easy to do after a long weekend of play. We look forward to a well-deserved weekend off for Thanksgiving in order to rest up for our next big weekend of play."
The Ephs will next face Princeton, Drexel, and UPenn in two weeks in Philadelphia.
