WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - On a bustling Saturday in Williamstown, the Ephs took on Drexel and Princeton.
Using a three court system in the first match against Drexel, senior captain Esther Baek (#3), sophomore Kathryn Wright (#6), and sophomore Cassie Deshong (#9) started off in the first wave of play. All three battled hard, but were ultmately bested by their Dragon opponenets in 3 games. Next on for the Ephs were sophomore Sarah Willwerth (#2), junior Melissa Swann (#5), and freshman Alex Pear (#8). All three had good runs, but despite their valiant efforts, were defeated by their opponents 3-0. Sophomores Julia Ward (#1), Abby LeBlanc (#4), and Adrienne Conza (#7) led the final wave for the Ephs. Ward, LeBlanc, and Conza all faced fierce opponents, and despite their great play, fell in three games. Ward nearly took the third game from her Dragon opponent with a nail bitingly close socre of 11-13.
Only a couple hours after completing their first match against Drexel, the Ephs were back on to face Princeton. Using a five court system for this match, Willwerth, LeBlanc, Wright, Pear, and Deshong were first to face off against their Tiger opponents. Despite giving their opponenets very competitive rallies, all five were ultimately beaten by their tough opponents in 3 games. Ward, Baek, Swann, and Conza came out strong in the second round of matches, but despite their best effort, the Tigers remained uncrackable and defeated all four 3-0. Baek played a very tight second game with her opponent, nearly winning with a score of 10-12.
Coach Blair Dils had this to say after the hard day of matches: "Despite the lopsided losses today, we played competitive squash and were able to raise our game play. We're really looking forward to playing Tufts tomorrow who will give us a tough match. It's been a challenging weekend, but we know playing this level of competition will get us ready for conference and tournament matches."
