Ephs Defeat Bowdoin Polar Bears 9-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - On a blisteringly cold day in Wiliamstown, the Ephs and their fans were eager to come inside to watch the Ephs face off agasint a fellow NESCAC rival - the Bowdoin Polar Bears. 

As is typical for the Ephs, a three court system was used for this match. The Ephs sat a few players out (senior captain Esther Baek (#2), junior Melissa Swann (#5), and sophomore Adrienne Conza (#9)) so that everybody could play as freshly as they could tomorrow against Bates and so that players 10 and 11 could get a legitimate match. With a default at the number 9 position from the Bowdoin Polar Bears, the Ephs had already started the match leading 1-0. Starting the charge for the Ephs in the first wave of play were sophomore Abby LeBlanc (#3), freshman Alex Pear (#6), and sophomore Cassie Deshong (#8). All three players delivered strong three game wins. Next on for the Ephs were sophomore Sarah Willwerth (#2), freshman Kathryn Wright (#5), and junior Eliza Bower (#7). Once again, all three plays defeated their Polar Bear opponents comfortably in three games. Feeding off of the momentum provided in the first two waves of play, sophomore Julia Ward (#1) and junior Anna Nicholson (#4) each triumphed over their opponents in three games.

Captain Esther Baek had this to say after the match: "This match was atypical, and we cannot expect to be in a similar mindset for Bates tomorrow, who will be much stronger. We were very efficient out on court today and tomorrow we need to be just as hungry."

The Ephs take on Bates tomorrow at 2pm at the Simon Squash Center, as well as Colby Sunday at noon and Mount Holyoke Sunday at 3 also home in Williamstown, MA.
