New Haven, CT – The Ephs secured their first win of the 2019-2020 season today against Dickinson 8-1. Unlike yesterday's match, a 3-court system was used today.
First up was Sarah Willwerth (#1), Kathryn Wright (#5), and Mira Kamat (#8). Wright and Kamat were able to comfortably get the win against their opponents by playing with strong attacking styles and a variety of serves. Willwerth had the toughest match of the day against the Dickinson #1. While she was able to steal the second game with clever shot selection, her opponent eventually clinched the match in four.
On court second was Haley Jefferson (#2), Anna Nicholson (#6), and Isabel Kelly (#9). All three Ephs played smart squash and were able to outlast their opponents easily and efficiently to win in three games.
Last up was Melissa Swann (#3), Quan Ng (#4), and Alex Pear (#7). Both Pear and Ng played their games and obtained a clean win against their opponents. Swann's opponent gave her a little bit of trouble in the third game, but she was able to win the match in three.
Co-Captain Melissa Swann said: "We had a strong team performance today. Dickinson came to battle, but our squad handled their attacks well. We're happy with the win, but we're already shifting our focus to our matches against Hamilton and Connecticut College tomorrow."
Tomorrow, the Ephs take on Hamilton and Connecticut College–their first NESCAC matches.
