HARTFORD, CT - On Sunday, the Ephs played in the finals of NESCACs against their hardest opponent of the weekend, Trinity.
Similarly to earlier in the season when the Ephs played Trinity, they knew that this match would be extremely difficult and were just looking to raise their game to the level of their formidable opponents. Their goal for NESCACs, which was to beat Middlebury, had already been accomplished and they were getting the opportunity to play Trinity again in the finals, so the Ephs really only cared about putting forth the best quality of squash possible and the actual results themselves weren't as important. Using a three-court system, sophomore Sarah Willwerth (#3), junior Anna Nicholson (#6), and sophomore Adrienne Conza (#9) went on first for the Ephs. Willwerth and Nicholson put up a valiant fight, but their opponents were too skillful and artfully beat them in three games. Conza turned the match narrative around a bit for the Ephs and beat her Bantam opponent in a convincing three games, putting up a victory on the board for the Ephs. Next on for the Ephs were senior captain Esther Baek (#2), sophmore Abby LeBlanc (#5), and freshman Alex Pear (#8). All three were gave their opponents good runs, but were eventually outplayed by their talented opponents and were unable to even take a game. Sophomore Julia Ward (#1), junior Melissa Swann (#4), and freshman Kathryn Wright (#7) were on last for the Ephs. Once again, the matches did not go in the Ephs' favor and all three fell in three despite their best effort. The final match score was 8-1 to the Bantams.
Assistant coach Blair Dills had this to say after the match: "The girls had a long weekend and I was impresed with a lot of the squash I saw. Trinity is always an incredibly tough match, but I don't think the scores necessarily reflect the quality of squash that the Williams team put forth. Overall, a lot of good take aways from this weekend!"
