Waterville, ME – On this fine Sunday afternoon in January, the Lady Ephs trumped the Colby Mules 9-0, extending their winning streak to four matches.
Junior Sarah Willwerth (#2) was still not fully recovered this morning, so the same line-up as yesterday evening was used. The top court–as usual–displayed a strong performance. Co-Captain Swann (#3) and first-year start Jefferson (#2) played good squash, hitting tight shots and using the front wall to win their match in straight sets. Top seed Ward had a slow start losing the first game 9-11 and clinching the second game 12-10. However, once she found her momentum and received some great coaching tips from her teammates, she won the rest of the games 11-1 and 11-2 to win the match in four.
On the middle court, Ng, LeBlanc and Co-Captain Nicholson rallied past their opponents using smart shot selection and the nicks to cruise past their Colby opponents in three games. Similarly, on the bottom court, Wright, Kamat and Pear utilized a variety of serves and drop-shots to sweep past their opponents in straight games.
This week, the team will be recovering and training hard for a couple of big matches at home next weekend. First match is against Mt. Holoyke at 5pm in the Simon Squash Center. Stay tuned!
