Providence, RI – In their last regular match of the season, the Williams Women's Squash team fell to Brown 1-8 on Tuesday night.
Top court led by Julia Ward (#1), Haley Jefferson (#2), and Sarah Willwerth (#3) struggled against the Brown Bears. Ward lost the first game 10-12, but she was unable to find her rhythm and eventually fell in three. Both Jefferson and Willwerth each won the first game off their opponents, but they were unable to convert the next three and lost 1-3.
Middle court had a few battles last night. While Co-Captain Melissa Swann (#4) was edged out by her Brown opponent 0-3, Quan Ng (#5) and Abby LeBlanc (#6) fought valiantly in their five-game matches. LeBlanc fell short in the fifth game losing 5-11, but freshman weapon Ng managed to pull through winning the fifth game 11-9 and the first and only point for Williams for the night.
Bottom court had a tough showing as all three Lady Ephs lost 0-3. Co-Captain Anna Nicholson (#7) played a very close match losing her first two games 11-13 and 10-12, but she was unable to fight back. Meanwhile, both Mira Kamat (#8) and Kathryn Wright (#9) were outsmarted by their Brown opponents and were not able to do much.
For now, the Purple Cows will be resting until the weekend where they will travel to Wesleyan for the NESCAC Championships!
