Clinton, NY. - Williams (10-3, 5-3 NESCAC) took down Hamilton (7-5, 3-5 NESCAC), claiming a 4-1 victory.
Â
The game started with clean play from both sides, as there were no corners in the first quarter. Keeley Duran was an important piece of Hamilton's team early on, defending and then finding holes in the Ephs' armor. However, the Ephs were the first to strike.
Catherine Torres worked the defense out wide right and attempted a crossing pass that didn't connect in front of the goal. The Continentals didn't cover all flanks as
Liz Scarcella slid a pass to
Shea van den Broek, who redirected it back to Torres. The first goal of the game went to the Ephs because they found the cohesion they were missing in the game against Bowdoin. Williams continued to put pressure on Hamilton at the end of the quarter, as van den Broek got off a shot towards the net. Multiple Ephs were around the ball, but none could score.
Â
With 5:54 left in the second quarter, Hamilton evened it up. They drew a corner, slashing into the Ephs defense. Tracey Stafford scored the subsequent goal off of the pass from Hannah Dillon.
Â
Williams took the lead 4 minutes into the second half, when 2 consecutive corners proved to be too much to handle for the Continentals. Van den Broek continued her playmaking clinic, sending a pass to
Emily Batchelor, who sent a shot past Maggie Reville. The Ephs bookended the quarter with goals, as with 1:23 to go in the 3rd, van den Broek netted one of her own after she sent a shot wide half a minute prior. As the teams headed into the fourth quarter, Williams held a 3-1 lead.

Coach
Alix Barrale said, "I was pleased with our performance, especially in the second half - I think we turned it up a notch."
Siobhan Morrissey and
Linda Bibeau were crucial in generating deflections and stalling out the Continentals. Williams put the final touches on the game with 5:57 to go, as
Molly Hellman caught a pass from
Elizabeth Welch across the circle and found an opening to score. This goal came off of a penalty corner that proved costly.
Â
All of Hamilton's 3 shots on goal came in the first half, where
Carson Stephenson saved 2 of them. For Hamilton, Maggie Reville faced 9 shots, saving 5 of them.
Â
The Ephs will take a couple of days to catch their breath, as they have their longest break of the season, facing Bates College in Lewiston, Maine on Saturday, October 23rd at noon. Hamilton has a relatively quick turnaround, facing Trinity Saturday, October 16th at 11 AM.
