THE EPHS DEFEAT THE WARRIORS

WILLIMANTIC, CT- Williams College (4-7-1) scored four goals to breeze past Eastern Connecticut State University (5-6-2).

The Ephs got out to a fiery start with two goals early. At 5:52, junior Emma Lynch scored her first goal of the season. Perfect ball movement from seniors Victoria Laino and Mikayla Kappes led to an opportunity for Lynch. She let out a strike that bounced off the crossbar and into the goal. The Ephs did not let up there; Just five minutes later, they found the back of the net again. The goal came off of a free kick from Victoria Laino. Her first goal of the season hit the crossbar and fell in, catching the goalie off guard.

The Ephs stayed aggressive throughout the first half but would not score again. Eastern Connecticut State was barely able to form an attack during the first half. Phenomenal defense from Williams stopped the Warriors from getting a shot off for most of the half. Luckily, they caught a break in the 40th minute: A great steal from freshman Briley Harnoi led to an open shot opportunity that flew straight into the goal.

The second half displayed continued aggression from the Ephs. In the 61st,  a deep pass from freshman Blakeley Buckingham connected with junior Liz Girvan for a header into the net. In the 84th, spectacular dribbling from freshman Kelly Beal led to a goal from sophomore Sam Phan.

The Ephs showed that they are much better than their record with unbridled aggression. Williams had 20 shots to Eastern Connecticut's 1, including 12 on goal.

Eph Coach Sarah Raymond was impressed with the team's performance: "Great win today after a strong week of really competing to win at practice. We've had some of our best practices this past week and been playing our best soccer which culminated in some really good play and goals in the net! Was super fun and a real team effort as so many of our players saw playing time and contributed to keeping our energy going for the full 90 minutes."

Williams College looks to secure another victory over Farmingdale State College tomorrow at 1:00.
