Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Ephs take down Curry 90-50 in first game of Purple and Gold Classic

Williamstown, MA -- The Williams Men's Basketball team took down the Curry College Colonels 90-50 to improve to 2-0 on the season Saturday night. Williams was led by sophomore Nate Karren with 15 points. Followed by first year Declan Porter and fellow sophomore Cole Prowitt-Smith with 13 and 11 respectively.

The Ephs came out of the gates hot, taking a 16-3 lead less than five minutes into the game. Great ball movement from the Ephs led them to open three point looks and easy layups inside.

Ephs coach Kevin App spoke on the teams goals entering the game, "We really wanted to lock in on our defensive concepts, and then not settle for shots on the offensive end. I thought we did that for long stretches and then got a little too relaxed at some points, but that's normal early in the season. It's nice to get a win, get everybody out there, and continue to learn a lot about ourselves as a team."

The Ephs continued to dominate the rest of the first half, taking a 44-20 lead heading into the break.

The second half included more of the same, with the Ephs controlling the offensive and defensive end of the court.

Williams dominated the glass all night, out rebounding the Colonels 43-22. Junior Spencer Spivy led the Ephs in the rebound department with nine, two of them coming at the offensive end.

Coach App discussed the team's effort to keep the energy high throughout the whole game, "We've waited a long time to play basketball. We can't take it for granted. We just need to work hard every single play. I thought we did a great job of that for long stretches but not the whole forty minutes. For us to be our best, it's just that. We're going to be locked in for the whole forty minutes and it's the other team's job to match us. We've taken another good step and we'll have a hard test tomorrow."

The Ephs were lights out from beyond the three point line, knocking down 9 of 16. First year Declan Porter was one of two Ephs to knock down multiple threes going 3-5, while senior Marc Taylor went a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc.

The Ephs get right back out on the court tomorrow, Sunday, November 21 vs. Salem State  at 3pm.
