RAMS TRIUMPH OVER EPHS AT THE BUZZER

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - In the second game of the Morin Memorial Tournament, Framingham State University (3-1) hit a game-winning layup at the buzzer to secure a victory over Williams College (2-3) 67-66.

Junior Devin Biesbrock sank two clutch free throws to give the Ephs a one-point lead with 2 seconds left in overtime. Framingham senior Krysta Padellaro attempted a layup that fell short. Luckily, she secured the rebound and made the putback to give the Rams the lead as time expired.

The game was a tale of two halves. In the first quarter, the Ephs got out ahead with great defense. A strong performance from freshman Arianna Gerig helped the Ephs jump out to a 17 to 11 start. She had multiple blocks and steals that led to easy layups for her and her teammates. In the second quarter, both teams found offense with buckets in transition. Eph freshman Ryan Taylor scored back-to-back baskets that put the Ephs up 29 to 20 at the end of the half.

In the third quarter, the Rams shifted the tide and went on a 22 to 10 run. A layup from Freshman Jenna Tavanese cut the lead to 4. Tough isolation baskets from sophomore Gwendolyn Carpenter also helped close the gap. She sank a deep three at the end of the quarter to give the Rams a three-point lead. The score was 39-42 at the end of the quarter.

The fourth quarter was a back and forth contest that came down to the wire. With 25 seconds left, the Ephs drew up a play for senior Maggie Meehan. She had an opportunity to win the game with a floater but her shot was just off. The game went into overtime, where the Rams would ultimately triumph.

Eph Head coach Pat Manning had this to say about today's game, "They went to the line 41 times and got 21 points off that. Lots of unnecessary fouls that kept them in the game. They had 19 offensive rebounds, we didn't box out enough. We had very good moments and our young players had their best performances yet. We just need to rebound and make smarter plays. Maddy Mandyck stood out, she had a double-double and did a good job defensively. Ellie Tounkara elevated her game today with key defensive stops and key shots."

Williams College (2-3) faces Springfield College (6-0) at home on Tuesday at 5 PM.
