Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Oswego State Downs The Williams College Ephs 3-1

Williamstown, MA -  Unlike yesterday's match up against the Laker's, the Ephs were first to score early in the first period. Eph's forward Jacob Monroe, assisted by teammate Jack Sabre, was able to take the puck from the offensive zone and slip it past Laker goalie Steven Kozikoski. This is Monroe's second goal of the season.

Freshman Cal Sandquist was in between the pipes for the Ephs, making his first Williams game appearance. Sandquist made a total of 29 saves throughout the three periods.

With 2:41 remaining in the first period, the Ephs shed first blood in penalties giving the Lakers their first power play opportunity. Oswego's Jackson Arcan found the puck off a point shot from Tyler Antonucci equalizing the score to 1-1. Antonucci and Tyson Kirkby were credited with the assists. At the end of the period, the Lakers showed offensive dominance over the Ephs with 10-6 shots on goal with the score being even at 1-1.

Similar to the first period, the game winning goal game came with 1:29 remaining in the second period. Eph's defenseman Ben Lawrick was sent to the penalty box late in the second period giving the Lakers a one skater advantage. Travis Broughman, assisted by Ryan Dickinson and Shane Bull, slashed a deflected point shot into the Eph goal putting the Lakers ahead by 1. Following the second period, the Lakers outshot the Ephs 19-14 and 12-8 in shots on goal. Both teams had one power play opportunity.

Going into the third period down by one, the Ephs came fresh from the locker room with new steam. The Ephs skated hard but were unable to capitalize on a shot past Kozikoski. The final goal of the game was posted by Garrett Clegg, who with teammates Shane Bull and Liam Haslan, managed to dump a shot past Sandquist from the back left board.

With 1 minute remaining in the period, head coach Bill Kangas pulled Sandquist from his post, putting 6 men on ice. The Ephs put in a great final effort but ran out of time. With a two-point advantage, the Lakers would take their second win of the weekend back to Oswego County.

The Ephs will be back on ice next week on December 3rd against Connecticut College at 7pm in Eph territory.
