Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer edged by Wesleyan 1-0

Williamstown, Mass. -- Wesleyan (3-0-0, 2-0-0) took an early one-goal lead and held off a strong Williams (1-2-1, 0-2-1) side during the second half.

The Cardinals went ahead in the fourth minute when midfielder Grace Devanny put pressure on the Ephs' defense, gaining control off the ball and launching a shot into the side netting. The early goal left the Ephs rattled. For the remainder of the first half, the Ephs were preoccupied with constant attacks from the Cardinals, leaving them with little energy to create substantial attacks.

Williams finished out the half with two shots and one corner compared to Wesleyan's five and three, respectively.

The Ephs came out firing during the second half. About ten minutes into the half, the Ephs worked the ball up the field, finding midfielder Emma Lynch ('23). Lynch dribbled at the Wesleyan defense and then threaded a ball into space for forward Sam Pan ('24). The Wesleyan keeper charged out of goal to intercept the pass, denying the Ephs a critical scoring opportunity.

The Ephs continued to put pressure on the Cardinals as time ticked down. Midfielder Meredith Tutun ('25) created multiple scoring opportunities on the right-hand side of the field using skillful combination play and aggressive dribbling.

The Ephs finished out the second half with eight shots and seven corners. They held Wesleyan to just three shots and one corner.

"While the outcome wasn't what we wanted, I'm really proud of the competitive spirit and the fight that we showed today right up until the end of the game," said Eph head coach Sarah Raymond. "We created a good number of opportunities in the second half. Our young players are gaining so much experience from the minutes they are playing right now and I know that is going to help us as we continue to move further into the season."

Williams will face Springfield on Cole field tomorrow at 1 pm.

"Can't wait to get back out there tomorrow and pick up where we left off," Raymond added.
