Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Eph Women's Soccer Downs Springfield 4-0 on Cole Field

Williamstown, Mass. -- Just thirteen minutes into the first half, Eph midfielder Mikayla Kappes ('22) was taken down in the box and awarded a penalty kick. Kappes drilled the ball into the bottom left corner, lighting the spark that would drive the Ephs (2-2-1) to a 4-0 win against the Springfield Pride (2-3-0).

"I was very excited to see us put together a much more complete performance on both sides of the ball," said Eph head coach Sarah Raymond. "Our defensive pressure was vastly improved from yesterday which helped to set us up for success."

Just six minutes after Kappes' goal, the Ephs were awarded a corner kick. Stepping up again, Kappes lofted a beautiful ball into the box. After some back and forth, defender Liz Girvan ('23) headed the ball towards forward Sam Phan ('24), who slotted the ball past Springfield keeper Amelia Harper.

Springfield created many opportunities during the first half, challenging the Ephs backline with five shots on goal and two corners, but they could not convert. The Ephs finished out the first half up two goals to none.

The Ephs ramped up the pressure in the second half, forcing turnovers and unforced errors by the Pride. In the 59th minute, Kappes ('22) drove down the right-hand side of the field, surged past a Springfield defender, and sent a crisp pass across the box for Phan ('24), who found the back of the net for the second time.

With less than five minutes left on the clock, the Ephs orchestrated yet another attack. Forward Claire Tolliver ('24) aggressively pushed the ball past the Springfield backline. Once in behind, Tolliver found the feet of midfielder Avery Mohan ('23) who had made a crashing run in at the far post. Unmarked, Mohan calmly took a touch and then placed the ball out of reach of the Springfield keeper, putting the Ephs up 4-0.

"It was great to see so many opportunities being created by multiple players. Nice to see some goals go in to reward us for all that hard work. Today was a true team win," Raymond added.

Williams will play home again next weekend, facing Trinity on Saturday and MIT on Sunday.
