Williamstown, MA – The Williams College men's ice hockey team (7-6-0, NESCAC 7-3-0) were defeated by the Colby Mules (8-3-0, NESCAC 6-2-0) 2-1 after Colby Michael Morrissey, assisted by Jack Sullivan and John McElaney made the game winning goal at 1:40 in the third period.
The #1 NESCAC ranked Ephs went head-to-head with the #2 NESCAC ranked Mules. The Ephs are coming off a tough lost last week against #2 nationally ranked SUNY Geneseo, while the Mules defeated Wesleyan 4-1 last week.
The Ephs opened the scoring in the contests tallying a goal at 4:43 of the first period against the Mules.

Jack Sabre, picked up a deflected shot and shot it past Colby goalie Andy Beran for the first goal of the game. The Ephs and the Mules were head-to-head in offense. At 13:34, the Mules responded with their own goal when Jack Sullivan, assisted by Connor Blanchard, posted a goal at 13-34. Blanchard skated two on one, taking a shot in front of the goal. Sullivan tipped the Blanchard's blocked shot to put the game 1-1. Both teams had one power play opportunity but were unable to capitalize on the one-man advantage. While the shots on goal were close 9-8 in favor of the Ephs, the Mules were able to build momentum going into the second period.
During the second period, both the Ephs and the Mules were unable to convert any goals. The Mules were first to receive the second period power plays. The Ephs were able to buckle down their defense and shut down both penalties. At 16:31, the Ephs gained a huge advantage when two Colby players were sent to the penalty box for tripping and interference. This gave the Ephs a two-man advantage. However, the Mules showed resilience and managed to keep the Ephs at Bay. After 40 minutes of play, the score was 1-1 with Ephs barely edging the Mules out 12-11 in shots on goal.
Going into the third, both teams were itching to take the advantage. 14 seconds into the period, a penalty against
Nick Altmann gave the Mules an early one-man advantage. Colby Michael Morrissey, assisted by Jack Sullivan and John McElaney, took advantage of this, and snatched the one goal advantage. The Mules continued to be aggressive, but the Ephs posted 11 shots on goal compared to the Mules 7. In the remain time, the Ephs were unable to respond with an equalizer and Colby would leave with their 8
th win of the season.
Up next for the Ephs is a home game tomorrow at 4pm against Bowdoin College.
