No. 10 Ephs Down No. 14 Continentals 4-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. -- Senior Catherine Torres got two assists while first year Pilar Torres notched two goals as the sister duo played a big role in the no.10 Ephs (10-3, 5-3 NESCAC) 4-0 victory against the no. 14 Hamilton Continentals (8-5, 4-5 NESCAC).

The Ephs did not take long to get on the board. At 2:38 of the first quarter, Pilar Torres inserted a penalty corner that found senior Emily Batchelor, who got a beautiful shot off and got the game up and running with her 18th goal of the season. The Ephs led 1-0 going into the second quarter.

Off a penalty corner at the 19:04 mark, Pilar found Batchelor who played a brilliant pass to Catherine Torres. Catherine then found sister Pilar for the second goal of the night and the Torres Show did not slow down. Hamilton tried to respond right away, but senior goalkeeper Carson Stephenson made three crucial saves in one play to keep the Continentals off the score sheet. With 41 seconds left in the second quarter, Catherine Torres found sophomore Kaela Smith and Smith put the Ephs up 3-0  heading into halftime.

The final goal of the night came 1:33 into the third quarter when Pilar's initial shot was blocked by Hamilton goalkeeper Audrey Alix, but was there to pick up the rebound. Pilar then created space, turned, and scored her second of the night, capping off a stellar performance.

Williams out shot Hamilton 17-6, with 15 of those shots on goal for the Ephs and 5 on goal for the Continentals. Junior goalkeeper Gates Tenerowicz made 2 saves and Carson Stephenson made 3 saves.

"So proud of our team," stated Eph head coach Alix Barrale after the game. "We played 60 minutes of outstanding field hockey. Great passing and ball movement. We executed our corners which really helped us get on the board. Both Carson and Gates made huge saves to keep Hamilton from scoring."

The Ephs next head out on the road  to take on no. 4 Trinity College on Saturday, October 22nd, at 12:00 PM in Hartford, Conn.
