HARTFORD, CONN. –– Like always, the Ephs' defense shone in their matchup at Trinity College Saturday afternoon. Goalie Ben Diffley and centerbacks Nick Boardman and Eamon Gara Grady all played the full 90 minutes, cementing the team's eighth clean sheet.
Much to their delight, Williams started the game off strong when Gara Grady released Nathan Song, who cooly finished to put the Ephs up 1-0 in the 4th minute.
Interested in keeping the lead, Ephs' netminder Diffley registered a trio of saves in the opening half-an-hour as the defense remained stout in the face of strong Bantam pressure.
The rest of the half was fought in the midfield, as neither side could quite break down the others' backline.
In the 61st minute, Trinity nearly equalized after Nicholas Bellak's effort hit the crossbar before being saved by Diffley.
Minutes later, the Ephs struck again when Henry Kirkman secured his first goal of the season off a throw-in.
When it was all said and done, the Ephs registered 8 (3) shots to the Bantam's 16 (8).
Ben Diffley had 8 saves, compared to the Bantam's Bernardo Simoes' 1.
The Ephs travel to Middlebury this Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
