Ephs fall to Conn. College in 1-0 defeat

Box Score

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. — The Ephs (4-0-5) (NESCAC 2-0-3) faced the Connecticut College Camels (4-2-2) (NESCAC 1-2-1) and after a hard fought 90 minutes the Camels prevailed 1-0. Connecticut College are the defending NCAA DIII National Champions. The Camels' Matt Scoffone scored the only goal of the match. Maurice Pigola won a scramble for the ball in the midfield before offloading to Scoffone, who took a touch and squeezed the ball past the inside of the post from 10 yards out.

The Ephs looked lively in the first half, generating many chances from the press of the Camel's defense and midfield. Eamon Gara Grady had a pair of headers in the 8th and 11th minutes that came close to putting the Ephs up.

The Ephs clamored for a penalty in the final seconds when an Eph header glazed off the sidearm of a Camel, but ultimately, the referees did not give the call.

The second half saw the Camels slowed down the pace of the game.

In the best chance of the game for Williams, Henry Osborn danced down the wing, eventually clipping a cross into the path of Connor Huleatt, whose effort was eventually parried by Camel keeper Peter Silvester in the 63rd minute.

Just a minute later, Huleatt returned the favor, laying off to Osborn, who took a touch and fired low, forcing a save from Silvester.

In the 88th minute, Cole Morriello curled a ball into the box, ultimately just missing Evan Vasquez and falling into the hands of the Camels keeper.

Eph keeper Ben Diffley had 5 saves on the night compared to Silvester's 8. The Ephs registered 14 (8) shots to the Camel's 7 (6).

Eph head coach Steffen Siebert noted after the contest, "Great performance from the team today. Both teams created opportunities but in the end Conn capitalized on their chance. Definitely many positive things to take into our next game."

Coming up, the Ephs face Wheaton College away on Tuesday.
