11th Ranked Williams Beats Connecticut College 1-0 in NESCAC Contest

Williamstown, MA –  Eleventh ranked Williams College (7-2-1, 6-1 NESCAC) defeated Connecticut College (6-3-1, 2-2-1 NESCAC) to rack up another NESCAC win at Cole Field.

The only goal of the game came from junior Ava Simunovic in the 17th minute. A corner kick from junior Jaquelin Nordhoff was touched by the Conn goalie, but she didn't get enough of the ball to catch it and Simunovic headed it swiftly in the net.

Williams controlled the ball for the majority of the first half, taking nine shots. In the 37th, senior Tess Belnap played the ball well down the left side and took a strong shot that Conn goalie Sarah Hall punched out of bounds. The Ephs continually pressured the Camels heavily throughout the game, with senior Emma Lynch and sophomore Tori Huang playing aggressive and not letting Conn hold onto the ball for long.

The second half of the game saw more fire from Connecticut College. The Camels took several shots from outside of the box that were all saved cleanly by first year goalie Margaret Huelin. Williams' defense did a spectacular job of staying hot on the Camel's tail and limiting scoring opportunities.

Eph head coach Sarah Raymond after the game stated, "Really happy with the total team performance we had today. The whole squad contributed to another hard fought NESCAC win. Conn is always a competitive game and with the wind at their backs in the second half, we were under siege at times. I was really happy with the composure we showed in these moments and the way we closed out the game. It was also a big moment for our first year goalkeeper, Margaret Huelin, playing in her first conference game and keeping a clean sheet."

Williams continues its play tomorrow against 19th ranked MIT at 12:30 pm on Cole Field.
