Box Score GAMBIER, OH –– After a long throw from Cole Morriello pinballed around the box, Brady Foehl set his feet and rolled a shot that nestled in the bottom right corner, past the outstretched Ohio Northern keeper. Jubilation from the Eph bench followed, and Foehl was soon at the center of celebrations from his teammates.
Through out the first half, the Ephs built out of the back and pressed high, pressuring the Northern Ohio backline and resulting in Klondike turnovers.
The Ephs' playmaking was on full display when Sam Gibson pinged a ball over the Klondike's backline, finding Keel Brissett, whose effort was blocked out for a corner.
In the 58th minute, Morriello floated a ball from the half-line, finding the head of Nathan Song, who flicked it into the path of an incoming Nick Boardman, who was an instant too late as Klondike Keeper Josh Ellis was there to pick it up.
Per usual, keeper Ben Diffley and center-backs Nick Boardman and Eamon Gara-Grady relentlessly protected the Williams net, anchoring the Ephs' defense to their 12th clean sheet of the season.
Credit to the Klondikes, who left it all on the field and were a formidable opponent against the Ephs. They had a particularly organized back-line which pestered many of the Ephs' attacking efforts.
The Ephs tallied 11 (3) shots, matching the Klondikes.
After the match, Head Coach Steffen Siebert added, "Couldn't be more proud of the guys punching their ticket to the Elite 8 in very tough weather conditions. Now we rest up and prepare for tomorrow's Elite 8 game!"
Today's victory means the Ephs will advance to Elite Eight and face the winner of the Washington & Lee vs. Kenyon at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
