ITHACA, NY -- Feeling confident after a solid win against Hamilton, the Ephs traveled to Cornell University to continue their New York road trip. They knew that their next match against the #7 ranked Bears would be a challenge. Unfortunately, the Ephs were not able to point any points on the board.
Starting off the day were matches from senior captain
Quan Ng (#2), Deena Iqbal (#6), and
Isabel Kelly (#9). These three were not able to steal any games, but Ng played an impressive and intelligent middle game although falling short to her Cornell opponent 12-10.
On next were
Haley Jefferson (#1),
Nora Brant (#5), and senior captain
Nikita Srivastava (#8). Once again, the Ephs forced the Bears into series of long, intense rallies. This was still not enough, and these three each fell in straight games.
Theresa Kay (#3),
Amanda Solecki (#4), and Roshni Pal (#7) were on last to finish up the competition. This group of underclassmen put up tough fights but could not take a game from their Big Red opponents.
After her strong performance at number 1,
Haley Jefferson commented, "I knew that today was going to be a tough match, but I'm happy to see the improvement in my shots which lead to some pretty close games with my opponent. It's a really promising sign and I'm excited for the rest of the weekend!"
The #15 Ephs will close the weekend tomorrow against #14 William Smith. Come watch this crucial match at 12pm.
