Ephs Lose to #8 Columbia

NEW YORK, NY -- For their final match of fall semester, the Williams women's squash team traveled to New York City to battle the #8 Columbia Lions. After a streak of away matches against top 10 teams, the Ephs went into tonight's competition ready to end the semester strong and fight hard against a talented opponent. Despite some well-played games, the result of the match was 9-0 win in Columbia's favor.

On first tonight were Theresa Kay (#3), Deena Iqbal (#6), and Isabel Kelly (#9) These three Ephs put up a solid fight against their opponents by playing good length and cutting the ball off when necessary, but each fell in three games.

The next round of matches was played by Haley Jefferson (#1), Nora Brant (#5), and co-captain Nikita Srivastava (#8). The Williams #1 found herself face-to-face with a professional squash player ranked 15 in the world. Jefferson's opponent clinched the win in the straight games. Brant and Srivastava reached the same result by the end of their matches.

Tonight's final matches were played co-captain Quan Ng (#2), Amanda Solecki (#4), and Roshni Pal (#7). Solecki and Pal were both bested by the Lions in three games. At the same time, Ng was locked into a battle. She clinched the first game 11-9 by using angles to counter her opponent's speed. The Lion countered Ng with an 11-9 win in second and eventually took the third and fourth to defeat Ng 3-1.

After the match, captain Quan Ng commented, "It's exciting to have played the last away game of the year. I'm looking forward to some rest and recuperation during finals and winter break. I'm optimistic about our upcoming matches in January."

The Williams women's squash team will take a few weeks off from matches for the rest of 2022. They will travel home for the holidays before continuing their streak of away matches against F&M on January 6th.
