Oswego, NY — A grueling battle between Williams College (3-6) and #3 Adrian College (8-2-1) would be decided midway through the game; Adrian fired a puck through from the slot on the man-advantage to push the Bulldogs past the Ephs 3-1.
The Ephs began the Pathfinder Tournament matched against the the nationally ranked Adrian College Bulldogs. The two teams came out flying, sharing chances at both ends before the Bulldogs would strike first.
Henry Muller wouldn't let that lead go for long as he would tip a point shot from
Jared Lambright to tie the game.
Evan Ruschil would make some huge stops to keep the Ephs in the game, as he would end the night with 37 saves.
Adrian began to take control of the pace in the second period, pinning the Ephs in their own zone for much of the frame. This zone time would pay off as they would tack on two goals in the second to enter the third period up 3-1. Williams began to pick up momentum as the period dragged on, but the Adrian netminder remained up for the task.
In the third frame, the Ephs would come out firing and start to take the game to the Bulldogs. Aggressive pressing and hard-hitting offense would help the Ephs secure some scoring opportunities, however, they couldn't quite find the back of the net.
After the loss, the Eph Head Coach,
Bill Kangas, had this to say: "Adrian is one of the best teams in the country, their play off the puck was outstanding. I thought we had a solid first period and a very good third period. Unfortunately, during the second period, our defensive gap was not tight enough, we gave them too much space to make plays. I liked how we competed and adjusted our game in the third. I know we will learn from this experience, and it will help us going forward."
The Ephs will face Saint Anselm's College tomorrow at 1pm EST.
