Ephs Drop Two On Second Day of Season

Despite 17 hits the Ephs fall short vs. strong Wisconsin Opponents

Scores:
Williams 4, U Wisconsin Eau Claire 5
Williams 3, Wisconsin Osh Kosh 6
Location: Clermont, FL
Records: Williams 2-2, UWEC 7-2, UWO 6-3

The Short Story: Despite 17 hits on the day the Ephs drop two to nationally ranked teams in Clermont, FL. First year players Vicky Trujillo Balderas and Kayla Chang lead the team at the plate on the young season, each batting .500.

Coach's Take:  "It's fun to make a push to come from behind to win, or work to win, games, but I'm hoping our comeback style goes away and that we can start games stronger.  Today we played two really good teams and battled but need to clean up our defense to be able to end up on top.  This team has tons of potential and it's already been fun to start to write our story together."

University of Wisconsin Eau Claire
How it Happened
  • A back and forth game with UWEC pushing a run across in the bottom of the sixth for the win.
  • After going down one early the Ephs scored three in the top of the 5th to go ahead, only to have UWEC answer with two in return to tie it up.
  • Sophomore Madison Mok '24 got her first start of the year, giving up just one earned run in four innings pitched. Adhya Tandon was the tough luck loser in relief.
  • Nine hits for the Ephs could have been more as strong defense from the Bluegolds and some hard shots hit right at the defense stymied the Ephs chances.
Inside the Box Score
  • Kayla Chang continued to be hot at the plate, going 3 for 4.
  • Vicky Trujillo Balderas was 2 for 3 and Rachel Neugart also had two hits and two key RBI for Williams.
  • The Ephs got runners on all game but were unable to capitalize, leaving eleven left on base.

Wisconsin Osh Kosh
How it Happened
  • UWO jumped out to a 6-0 lead through five innings.

  • Elyse Chan got her first start of the year in the third appearance for the first-year.
Inside the Box Score
  • Vicky Trujillo continued to be hot at the plate, going 2 for 3. Her season batting average is now .500
  • Bailey Burger-Moore '23 came off the bench to get a big two RBI double in the sixth
  • Shortstop Ronni Ramos had the other RBI for Williams.
  • Adhya Tandon '23 pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
