WILLIAMSTOWN, MA– 3 goals in the first quarter, 2 goals in the second quarter, 3 goals in third quarter, and 2 goals in the fourth quarter were enough to give Trinity the 10-7 win over the Ephs Saturday on Farley-Lamb Field.
Trinity opened the game with a goal at the 12:42 mark in the first quarter credited to Lilianna Khosrowshah after some patient work around the goal. Grace Collier responds at the 8:35 mark after some great movement around a couple of the Trinity defenders, followed by a shot into the right side of the goal. As the Bantams kept putting pressure on the entire game, the Ephs were able to find responses. "Grace is playing awesome, she is competitive and hungry" Coach Alice Lee said when asked about the two goal performance from the first-year.
The Bantams responded with two goals. Christine Taylor rips a shot low at the 3-minute mark to take the lead. Taylor returns the favor to her teammate Lilianna Khosrowshah with 0:34 left taking a two goal lead going into the second quarter.
The Ephs came out of the break ready to go after Grace Collier rips a shot into the goal over the Bantam goalie to bring the game with in one with 13:27 to play. An early second-quarter flurry of attacks by the Bantams are denied by the Ephs shot-stopper Caitlyn Joyce to keep it within 1, but the Eph defense gets broken down with a goal scored by Lily Ives with 5:16 left in the second quarter to take the lead 4-2, just a few minutes later Ives wraps around the goal to score her second of the game. However, like they were doing all game, the Ephs respond with just under a minute in the half, Abby Godwin cuts to the middle of the goal and receives the ball, and scores emphatically to bring the score within 2 going into the half. Abby Godwin led the Ephs in scoring today with a hat trick of her own.
Early in the third quarter Christine Taylor picks off a pass from the Ephs defenders, forcing a turnover, and capitalizes on the opportunity to take a 6-3 lead. But the Ephs showed their resiliency. With 11:15 remaining, the Ephs score after a great pass from Madison Fulcher-Melendy to Shea Van Den Broek for a quick shot and a goal to bring the game within two. With 7:37 left to play in the third quarter, Shea Van Den Broek recreates her first goal to score an identical second goal to make it a one-score game.
With 3:19 left in the third quarter, Elle Fair capitalized on a penalty by Abby Godwin and scores for the Bantams to regain that two-goal cushion; a few moments later Christine Taylor scores her third of the game after a shot into the side netting to make the score 8-5 going into the fourth quarter.
The Ephs looked to reverse the momentum of the game. They came out in the fourth quarter fast with Abby Godwin smashing a hard low shot into the net to cut the Bantam's lead to two. Lilianna Khosrowshah comes back down the other end to score and reestablish their three goal lead and score her third goal of the game. The Bantams added to their lead with a goal from Caroline Lampert with 8:06 remaining in the game. The Ephs fought all the way until the end with Abby Godwin scoring her third goal of the game with 0:19 on the clock.
"We are looking forward to the next game and lots of good things came from today, the girls played really hard out there, but we are looking forward to competing again" Coach Alice Lee mentioned.
The Ephs will travel to take on Tufts University tomorrow, Sunday, March 6th at 2 pm.
