Senior Day 2022
Senior Day 2022

The Short Story: On a day in which the Ephs celebrated their three seniors – Maya Hartman '22, Mara Kipnis '22, and Rachel Neugart '22 – Williams extended their lead from last night to win 10-5 in Game 1, but Wesleyan leveraged a six-run sixth to take Game 2, 10-7. The Ephs won two of the three games of the weekend series.

Coach's Take: "[Our seniors] had a fantastic outing today. They're great hitters, and it was great having their families there. As a team, we were a little more disciplined, not 100%, but we put the ball in play and put some pressure on their defense."– Kris Herman

How it Happened

  • Leading 6-3 after the game was suspended due to darkness, the Ephs blew the game open in the sixth with a two-run home run by Kipnis, a sacrifice fly by shortstop Ronni Ramos '24, and another run off an error by Wesleyan shortstop Courtney Collins-Pisano to make it 10-3. Pitcher Madison Mok '24 gave up two runs in the seventh, but escaped the inning to seal the win.
  • In Game 2, Wesleyan scored one run and left the bases loaded in the first inning for the third consecutive game. The Ephs rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning, but an RBI double by pitcher Isabella Secaira-Cotto in the third and a two-run home run by shortstop Courtney Collins-Pisano in the fourth made it 4-3 Cardinals.
  • After the Ephs tied the game on an error by first baseman Chrissy Gately, Wesleyan third baseman Darlene de La Cruz hit a two-run single with the bases loaded to make it 6-4. After Gately reached on a fielder's choice, center fielder Hannah Docktor hit a grand slam over the left-field wall to pad Wesleyan's lead.
  • The Ephs didn't go down without a fight, rallying with an RBI infield single by shortstop Ronni Ramos '24 and a two-run home run by Neugart to make it 10-7 in the bottom of the sixth. Secaira-Cotto, however, limited the damage from there and completed the game.
Inside the Box Score
  • Kipnis' home run in the sixth inning of Game 1 was her fourth of the season, passing third baseman Kelly McGuigan '24 for the team lead.
  • Left fielder Tayler Wise '24 collected a season-high four hits in Game 2, and three other Ephs (Kipnis, Neugart, and right fielder Kayla Chang '25) finished the game with multiple hits.
  • Neither side played particularly good defense in Game 2; the two teams combined for five errors (three by Wesleyan, two by Williams).
