WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- With bases loaded, Jackson Johns let
J.P. Wong's pitch go for the 4
th ball and an RBI walk that brought Jackson Sattinger in from third with the game winning run for Hamilton.
Â
Following Monday's rain, the Ephs took advantage of a warm Tuesday afternoon to make up a previously cancelled game against Hamilton.Â
Â
Scoring three runs in the first inning, Hamilton gained the upper hand. Adding to their lead in both the second and third innings Hamilton gave themselves some breathing room up 6-0.
Â
Taking advantage of sacrifice fly balls, walks, and stolen bases, Hamilton's two runs in the 2
nd came despite Wong allowing zero hits.
Â
Jay Schlaefer's single to center field in the 3
rd brought in another run, putting Hamilton up 6-0.
Â
Williams was able to respond in the bottom of the inning with base hits from
Eric Pappas and
Jakob Cohn. With two outs,
Henry Juan walked and loaded the bases.
Billy Shea followed suit by challenging the first year, Henry Tyler, to throw strikes and walked as well to bring in the Ephs's first run of the day.
Â
A Johns double gave Hamilton the 6-run lead again in the fifth and the Ephs had their work cut out for them once more.
Â
Pitching then took over the ballgame as both bullpens gave up only a collective 3 hits in the remainder as both teams remained scoreless through the top of the 9
th.
Â
Down 6 still,
Kedar Veeraswamy, Pappas, and
Cole Whitehouse all walked. With Cohn connecting for a ground ball toward third, Hamilton took the easy force out, allowing Veeraswamy to score for the final run of the night as Hamilton captured the 7-2 victory.
Â
Despite the loss, Williams got the chance to cycle through their bullpen and showcase two nice pitching performances from first years:
Max Hart and
Jacob Martin who each allowed only 2 hits through 3 innings each.
Â
Williams will play one final game this Saturday at 1:00 pm when the team travels to Lewiston, Maine to compete against the 7-25 Bates Bobcats.
