Ephs Edge Out The Beavers 3-2 On The Road To Improve 2-0

WELLESLEY, MASS. - First year Natalia Nolan's goal at the 52:10 mark was enough to ensure the Ephs a 3-2 road victory and hand the Babson Beavers their first loss of the season.

It took 2:18 into the game for senior Emily Batchelor to score her first goal of the season and pick up right where she left off in the previous season. The initial shot by junior Liz Scarcella was blocked by Babson's goalkeeper but Batchelor was ready for the rebound to put the Ephs 1-0 up.

With 4:49 left in the first quarter, the Ephs capitalized on a penalty corner where first year Kiki Higgins received the ball and passed it to Emily Batchelor who put the ball in the back of the net to make it a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Eph Head Coach Alix Barrale stated, "We did a great job of executing our game plan and we capitalized early on our penalty corners."

The Beavers, however, came out fired up in the second half as they managed to get a goal back from Brianne McGrath with her second chance in the 38:49, marking it the first goal conceded by the Williams team this season. Fatigue would go against the Ephs as they needed a spark going into the crucial fourth quarter.

With a little under eight minutes left in the game, senior Faith Stineman made a beautiful pass in the circle to Natalia Nolan who gave the Ephs a 3-1 lead, ensuring a potential victory for the visiting team.

The Beavers continued to fight and managed to get another goal back making it 3-2 with just 61 seconds left on the clock.

"So proud of the way we played today. Overall an exciting hard fought win against a power house like Babson," said coach Barrale after the final whistle.

The Ephs fired 20 shots with 12 being on goal, while the Babson Beavers managed to fire 5 shots with 4 being on goal.

The Ephs make it two road wins from two games and look to keep a perfect start to the season as they are on the road again, this time against Smith College in Northampton, Mass. on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
