Ephs Shutout Smith College 6-0

NORTHAMPTON, MASS. - The Williams College Ephs continued their perfect start to the season with 4 goals in the second quarter and 2 in the third to shutout the Smith College Pioneers 6-0.

The Ephs started the game with high pressure but could not capitalize from the eight shots they had in the first quarter. It took a while for the Ephs to get on the board but once they did, they had a hard time stopping.

The first goal came in at the 16:51 mark when the Ephs were awarded a penalty corner. First year Pilar Torres put it in play to first year Kiki Higgins who  puts the ball in the back of the goal, and gets the Ephs on the board.

Less than two minutes later, senior Emily Batchelor gets her first goal of the night from a beautiful assist from Kiki Higgins who squares it in to put the Ephs ahead 2-0. 19:24 into the game and Kiki Higgins finds herself in the right place at the right time to score her second of the night after the Pioneers' goalie made an initial first save.

Emily Batchelor added to her first goal when she made a beautiful run beginning from the midfield line and getting through into the circle to put the Ephs 4-0 up at halftime.

In the third quarter, Emily Batchelor scored the final two goals of the night at the 36:20 and 39:07 marks, respectively. Emily Batchelor had a terrific night with four goals along with teammate Kiki Higgins who added two goals and two assists.

The Ephs defensive line played a crucial role in the third win of the season as they limited the Pioneers to just two shots on the night. The Ephs managed to get 20 shots tonight with 16 on goal.

"We definitely had to earn that win," said Eph head coach Alix Barrale. "Smith did a nice job of disrupting our play in the first quarter, but we stepped it up in the second quarter scoring 4 goals. Emily Batchelor had 4 goals while Kiki Higgins had 2 goals and 2 assists. They were equally impressive converts in the circle. Overall, a great team effort and an exciting win."

The Ephs are now 3-0 this season and look to continue their stellar start when they host Bates College for their home opener this Saturday, September 17th, at 12:00 PM on Williamson Field.
